Handmade Tokoname-yaki Teapot

Description: Discover the exquisite artistry of Tokoname-yaki, a traditional Japanese pottery style hailing from the Chita Peninsula, with its focal point in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture. Tokoname-yaki belongs to the prestigious group of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, renowned for its rich history and distinctive ceramic techniques.

Artist: Master Craftsman Mizuno Hiroshi: Mr. Mizuno was born in Tokoname in 1950 and apprenticed under Jozan Yamada, a Living National Treasure and nationally designated Important Intangible Cultural Property holder. He specializes in making teapots and kettles. From preparing the clay, which involves mixing various clays with a focus on Tokoname clay, to shaping the pieces, he does everything himself. The process of creating his preferred clay is no easy task. He is also particular about the design, incorporating three different sizes of holes in the small hemispherical tea strainer to prevent clogging. The spout is angled and directed to create a beautiful flow of tea, while the lid is crafted to fit snugly without making any noise.

Size:
