Kirishima, located in Kagoshima Prefecture, is known for its rich natural beauty, and it is here that this delicious gyokuro tea is grown using organic farming methods. Gyokuro is a special type of green tea that is shaded for about a month before harvesting. By shading the tea leaves, we prevent the conversion of the tea’s savory umami components into bitter ones caused by sunlight exposure. As a result, the leaves retain a high concentration of amino acids, which are responsible for the rich umami flavor. This gyokuro offers a luxurious, deep taste full of umami, with a gentle and soothing flavor accompanied by a subtle green aroma.
Unlike sencha, gyokuro is best enjoyed brewed at a low temperature, allowing the umami to be extracted slowly and thoroughly. This tea can be steeped 3 to 4 times, so savor each infusion and enjoy the gradual change in flavor.

A. Yes, like all green tea, this sencha contains caffeine. It has approximately 30mg per cup, which is about one-third of the amount in a typical cup of coffee. It is also rich in L-theanine, an amino acid known for its calming and focusing effects, which provides a state of smooth, alert relaxation.
Q. How should I store the tea?
A. To maintain its quality and freshness, please store your tea in a cool, dark place, away from high temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight. Ensure the package is sealed tightly after each use. We recommend consuming the tea promptly after opening to enjoy its best aroma and flavor. Usually, matcha/secha's aroma and flavor will go down from 2 to 3 weeks.
